Sold out, but version 2 is coming!

I shipped my last kit last week. Mixed feelings. It’s cool that 3 dozen pi-Stomps are rockin’ the world in at least 8 different countries. I’d really like to be able to offer a new batch of kits, but the enclosure blank was somewhat unique (4-screw 1590DD instead of the typical 6-screw). I’m unable to source a new batch unless I purchase 117 of them. That’s not gonna happen.

However, for the last 2+ months I’ve been working on the next generation. A common request has been hardware customization. Some want more/fewer knobs/switches. Some want a different LCD display. Different sound cards or Raspberry pi models, etc. Although a degree of that was possible with pi-Stomp, fitting those mods into a purpose built enclosure, wasn’t practical.

So… I’ve been working on “pi-Stomp Core”. The general idea is to provide the core functionality (input-buffering, bypass, ADC & debounce for controls/switches, LCD & navigation, etc.) but allow the builder to decide which LCD, the type & number of controls, whether to include DIN MIDI, etc. This makes pi-Stomp more of a platform that can be incorporated into your dream audio processing project without preconceived ideas about how many controls you need, the size and aesthetics of the enclosure, etc.

pi-Stomp Core is smaller, cheaper and easier to build. This is possible by providing interface headers for all of the peripheral functions. Add just what you need, no more, no less.

The same default pi-Stomp software can be used, leveraging its history and userbase.

Below is the high level architectural diagram. If you have suggestions, please let me know, ASAP. PCB’s expected to be available for purchase in May, 2021.

  1. Hello, I would be interested to know when the next generation of pi-Stomp main boards and casing will be available, please.
I think that it would be a pretty nice birthday present for a guitar player.
If I understood it well, plugging in a pedal like the M-Audio EX-P pedal (link: https://www.thomann.de/gb/maudio_expression_pedal.htm) would also allow me to use the Wah emulator, isn’t it?
    Thank you,
    kind regards
